Grenache sourced from the 1970 block from the Rayner vineyard which is planted on sand. This block is dry-grown and managed organically. Bondar ended up using around 20% whole bunches in 2021, to add more savoury notes and fine structure for aging. Two-thirds of the wine was aged in old oak hogsheads, with the balance in ceramic vessels for six months.

All class. McLaren Vale Grenache in its purest guise.

Reviews

“Raspberry, poached strawberry, nutty and spicy, with a fine mint and dried rose perfume. Medium-bodied, ripe strawberry, fine dusty and gently sandy tannin, a hazelnut richness, menthol, fresh feel, a wine that tastes like it’s from ‘somewhere good’ and suitable to grape variety, is the over-arching feeling, and the finish is long and savoury, and quietly fruit sweet. Delightful, with something of a ferrous character too. So good. Charismatic.”
95 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
"Cherries, strawberries, wild herbs and dried flowers on the nose. Bright and fruity with fine tannins, a medium body and succulent layers of red fruit. Wonderful purity and transparency. Drink now or hold. Screw cap."
