This hails from 0.15 hectares of vines planted in 1965 and located mid-slope on shallow, rocky soil with high limestone content. At its finest (which comes down to producer and location), Clos de la Roche can produce some of the Côte d’Or’s most profound reds. This wine is typical of the appellation’s finest wines, offering a deep, layered and dark-fruited personality with the exotic spice and earthiness of Morey’s northern slopes. As you would expect, there is more structural muscle and minerality than in the Clos Saint-Denis, yet the wine is typical of Leroux 2022 because it has tremendous finesse and class.
