Not to be confused with the straight Genevrières bottling, this comes from the upper, Dessus-section of Genevrières, where Leroux owns a tiny 0.12-hectare plot. In good years, only two barrels are made, and this wine is now bottled in magnum only. Close to Perrières, the soils are full of hard Bathonian limestone, and the vines are 60 years old. Since 2014, these vines have been biodynamically farmed. This is totally different to Leroux’s other Genevrières bottling, i.e., this is much more archetypal: super fine with floral, citrus and lime blossom aromas, pungent minerality and a long, rocky close. 2022 yielded enough for a 228-litre and 300-litre barrel (neither new). Certainly, one of the top whites of the cellar.

Reviews

“Much more finesse here. A vivid pale lemon and lime colour. This bottling has the magical refinement of the best of Genevrières, as well as a promising body of flesh, permeated by mineral and herbal notes. A fine complete example.”
93-96 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“The 2022 Meursault Genevrières Dessus 1er Cru is only bottled en magnum. Side-by-side, there is a little more intensity and complexity compared to the regular cuvée, though it is only a marginal difference. The palate is well-balanced, with quite a lively, spicy opening. There’s good depth and a keen line of acidity. Overtly nutty, almost smoky towards the finish, with moderate length. Afford this 3-5 years in bottle.”
93-95 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
