Although Mortet’s 0.32 hectares of vines are located in the lower part of this historic vineyard, they are some of the oldest (more than 60 years) and most fastidiously farmed vines in the entire Clos. Mortet’s vines are right below those of Château de la Tour in the lower-middle of the slope. Château de La Tour’s meticulous owner François Labet—a straight shooter who only pays a compliment when he genuinely feels it is deserved—told us that Mortet’s example always comes up at (or at least, near) the top of any comparative tasting they hold. In short, Mortet produces a supremely fine Clos de Vougeot; the most floral and Musigny-like Vougeot in our portfolio.
