Another of Beaune’s finest terroirs, David Croix farms just 0.30 hectares in the 1er Cru of Les Grèves. Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) refers to this vineyard as “absolutely the heartland of Beaune”, and it typically produces the appellation’s deepest, longest-lived wines. Croix’s parcel, planted in 1968, has been farmed organically for over a decade. The vines lie just next to Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus—widely considered the best location on the slope—on brown clay soils with gravel. Vinified with 35% whole bunches, the wine matured without any new oak.
