Les Baudes (3.42 hectares) sits just below the Grand Cru Les Bonnes Mares but has slightly richer and rockier red soil. The vines are now over 45 years of age. It’s typically the most muscular wine produced by Barthod, generally requiring the most time in the cellar. Considered by commentators to be the most ‘Morey’ of her wines, I think it more accurate to call it the most Bonnes Mares! With just 0.19 hectares under vine, it’s also one of Barthod’s rarest wines.

Reviews

“Glowing purple. The nose starts quietly and this is middling concentrated, but there is much more behind. Even so, compared to the Beaux Bruns, there is currently less flesh covering the tannins but the perfectly balanced finish promises really well.” 92-95 points
94 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“Outstanding. Here the equally elegant nose is even cooler and more restrained with a similar aromatic profile. The sleek, intense and more voluminous flavors possess plenty of muscle and punch before culminating in a dusty, serious and notably more structured finish. In contrast to the prior wines, all of which could be approached in their youth, this beauty is clearly going to require at least some patience and 12 to 15 if you wish to experience it at its apogee.” 90-93 points
