Tatjana Peceric’s own label sees her explore the cooler, higher vineyards of Cornudella de Montsant (the DO’s northernmost village) to draw out a higher-toned, more floral and edgy expression of Montsant’s two principal red varieties, Grenache and Carignan. The winemaking mirrors that of Peceric’s work with Terroir Sense Fronteres. Infusion over extraction reigns supreme: there is no destemming, no oak and any maceration is extremely gentle and powered by foot.

For the 2021 release, the Grenache was co-fermented in amphorae with a little Garnatxa Peluda (a mutation of Grenache Noir producing smaller, thicker-skinned berries with higher acidity and less alcohol) from the same vineyard, and the Carignan was vinified in stainless steel. Each component matured in those same vessels for six months before they were blended and bottled (unfiltered).

It’s a brilliantly perfumed and floral mountain red offering dainty, fluid and pure red fruits and a dusting of spice, flecked with rocky, mineral notes. The palate is super-fine, elegant and vibrant, yet there is abundant depth and complexity to fill the glass.

Reviews

“Pale, bright cherry hue. Extremely bright raspberry notes dance through with vivid, pinot sensibility. Fine reduction adds tautness and flinty, sesame character. Gorgeously juicy and fresh with bright, berry-loaded acidity enlivening the palate. Very drinkable. Finesse and vibrancy are the words. Enjoyable now, but will hold, too.”
