While the vineyards of Terroir Sense Fronteres lie in Figuera and Capçanes (in Montsant’s south), Peceric’s label sees her explore the region’s cooler, higher vineyards of Cornudella de Montsant, the DO’s northernmost village. Here she works with a close friend who farms what Peceric terms a “beautiful biodynamic garden” at a nosebleed altitude of 700 meters above sea level. The site's mature, 50-plus-year-old vines are rooted in light red clay with gypsum veins, which, alongside Peceric’s retro/modern winemaking, draw out a higher-toned, more floral and edgy expression of Montsant’s two principal red varieties, Grenache and Carignan.

The winemaking mirrors that of Peceric's work with Terroir Sense Fronteres. Infusion over extraction reigns supreme: there is no destemming, no oak and any maceration is extremely gentle and powered by foot. For the 2019 release, the Grenache was co-fermented in amphorae with a little Grenache Gris from the same vineyard, and the Carignan in stainless steel (both with indigenous yeasts). Each component matured in those same vessels for six months before they were blended and bottled (unfiltered).

Pas de Deux Coreografia 2019

Reviews

“A new red blend of 50% Garnacha with 50% Cariñena, the 2019 Pas de Deux Coreografía was inspired by the love of winemaker Tatjana Peceric for dance. The grapes were sourced from 50- to 60-year-old vines at 700 meters in altitude in the village of Cornudella del Montsant that are in the process of being certified in biodynamic farming. The ripening cycle is very slow here, and the soils are a light red with lots of gypsum, which also seems to add a chalky feeling in the texture. There are very few vineyards in Cornudella, which is the northernmost village of Montsant, quite different from La Figuera, and the altitude also contributes an extra dimension, adding to bright acid red berries and with an electric sensation on the palate. This is clean, elegant, aromatic and expressive. 2,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2020.”
94 points, Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate
“This is incredibly fresh and supple, with some smooth, lush red cherry fruit adding a silky sheen (presumably from the Grenache) and a firmer frame with taut, finely spiced black fruits providing a foil (presumably from the Carignan). It’s really detailed and fine, with nice acidity and a bit of grip, and at the moment it’s really unfurled. Picked early, the grapes have yielded a taut, elegant, supple vin de garde that has a bright future ahead of it. Such lovely balance, with some savoury notes of beetroot and a twist of pomegranate on the finish. No oak here.”
