Diam. Exposed southeast, Rully’s 1er Cru Les Cloux vineyard is located just above the 1er Cru Chapître on the classic clay/limestone mix found across Burgundy’s best sites. This site is known for its ability to balance mouth-watering flesh with tangy grip and fine length. This 100% Chardonnay was fermented and then aged in older barrels (up to seven years old), although some younger wood was utilised this year to ensure barrels were kept full. With a more electric profile than 2020, there is ample flesh, yet it’s a racy and tangy white Burgundy with hints of florals, pear, confit citrus fruit and a kiss of spicy oak. The balance is as lovely as ever, with a textured, poised mouthfeel supported by vivacious acidity that brings freshness and length. It could be the most penetrating Les Cloux since 2017. Time will tell, and there is no hurry to drink this.
