This is 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay from 40-year-old vines in Ambonnay, aged in barrel until bottling, with no malo. Dosage is 5g/l. It is a deep, layered yet powerful expression of Ambonnay and, with the Blanc de Noirs, represents one of the very finest wines of the Montagne de Reims Grand Cru area. The 2008 harvest was clearly a great one in the Champagne area and Egly hasn’t missed his chance to fashion an astonishing Millésime. This is clearly one of the greatest releases from this maker, as the note from William Kelley below makes clear.
