Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée Les Hautes Maizières 2021

This has always been a Vosne lieu-dit of 1er Cru quality. The vines here sit just below Suchots and Échezeaux and right beside Clos de Vougeot. They have an average age of about 60 years, so the quality should come as no surprise. Lachaux farms just 0.6 hectares and notes that the iron-rich soil gives “more tenderness and less power" than typically found in the Vosne village wine. As always, this is a step up from the Vosne; however, it is also more powerful, so less immediately open and giving. In a way, it is more typically ‘Vosne’ in terms of the ripe fruit and spice notes. Early days for this baby.
