In a further measure to maintain and even improve the quality of the Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines, this Morey-Saint-Denis was created in 2018. It is essentially from the plot called Cabotte (planted 2018, top right of the vineyard), blended with the youngest vines in the clos. These are mostly vines that have been regrafted with mass-selection material from the clos itself; vines graded as Pinot très fin, as they are the lowest yielding and produce the highest quality. To mitigate the youth of these vines, Noli crops at just two bunches per vine! The 2022 matured in used barrels and fermented entirely without stems. It’s an opulent, exuberant and layered expression of the clos and frankly, extremely fairly priced. What other (outstanding) wine from a famed Grand Cru can be secured at this price level?

Domaine Clos de Tart Morey-Saint-Denis 2022

Reviews

“From the plot called Cabotte (planted 2018, top right of the vineyard) and all other young vines up to 5 years old. No whole bunches and no new wood. A full bright crimson with some depth in the middle. Plump dark berry fruit on the nose, then with an unexpected burst of fruit at mid palate, before a shorter finish due to the age of the vines. Raspberry and blackberry fruit. The tannins are not yet entirely integrated, but that should happen with a little more time. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Nov 2023.”
90-91 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“The village Morey produced at the Clos de Tart is a triumph of purity and elegance at this level. The wine has ripe black plum fruit aromas with a hint of violets and spice. The texture is silky and surprisingly dense, with firmish tannins and good length. The wine is a blend of several components, including a selection of young vines throughout the vineyard and all the grapes from a section called Cabotte that features young vines from a fantastic massale selection. The grapes are picked early, destemmed completely, and fermented with minimal extraction before ageing (no new casks).”
