Malvasia (aka Malmsey) or Malvasia Cãndida/Malvasia Malvasia Branca de São Jorge, to be more accurate, is Henriques first grape to be harvested each year, and grows exclusively in the south of the island at a lower altitude of 150-200 metres. It is used to make the island’s sweetest, richest style, which still exhibits the delicious mouth-watering acidity of great Madeira. Traditionally, these wines are consumed with richer, chocolate-influenced desserts or enjoyed on their own after a meal.
