Shawn Kalleske’s 2019 GSM comes from estate fruit sourced from Maranga, Moppa Hill and Greenock vineyards. This year’s blend is 52% Grenache (with the lion’s share from Maranga and a small component of old-vine Moppa), 28% Shiraz (mainly Greenock Creek with a little Moppa) and 20% dry-grown Mourvèdre (also from Moppa).
The fruit was predominantly de-stemmed, with a very small proportion of the old-vine Grenache seeing some whole bunch. Fermentations were separate, in open-top fermenters and with varying degrees of hand-plunging and pump-overs. The wine matured for 14 months in seasoned French oak puncheons and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Magic value, as always.
