Cabernet Sauvignon 88% Merlot 12%. Sourced from two plots in Margaret River, from vineyards planted on gravelly soils and farmed under an organic regime. The vines in these vineyards produce moderate yields of high quality fruit which conveys a clear sense of place.

Fruit parcels were hand harvested and fermented separately in a combination of open, static and concrete fermenters. Following 16 days fermentation, wines were pressed and matured in French oak for 14 months then blended and filtered before bottling in September 2020.

2019 provided an unusually cool, late season with below average January temperatures contributing to a delayed start to harvest. Yields were low, a benefit in a cooler, later season, and reds were picked in outstanding condition with developed flavour, good density and fine, ripe tannins.

Reviews

“Supple, fresh and well concentrated with pure blackcurrant, blackberry fruits, fine lacy/filigreed tannins and underlying roasted chestnut, vanilla notes. Finishes grainy firm. A classical claret style with superb tannin ripeness and texture.”
96 points, Andrew Caillard MW, The Vintage Journal
“A blend of 2 vineyard blocks: Block U12 & Weightmans Block 5. Fourteen months in French oak (39% new). Salted raspberry, licorice and Mariposa plum, the '19 vintage has birthed a wine of restraint and class. Far more layered, fine and spicy than the previous vintage. It needs time to unfurl and flower, which it should have done by the time it is released. Gorgeous, New World cabernet: power without weight.”
94 points, Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion
“Bay leaf and nutmeg, black fruit and aniseed. Medium-bodied, quite spicy too, with distinct nori/umami flavour, firm grainy tannin, salted plum and raspberry, with again a nutmeg/spice finish of solid length. Good wine. Quite saline/maritime in feel, but nice in that way. Attractive tannin chew to close.”
92 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
