This classic Margaret River Cabernet hails from two of Voyager Estate’s most impressive Cabernet Sauvignon blocks. Both blocks lie on gravelly soils and are farmed organically. North Block 12 is planted to the Houghton clone, and Weightmans Block 5 is home to 125 clone. Houghton gives fruit on the darker end of the spectrum, while 125 is prized for its lighter fruit profile, perfume and delicate structure. It’s a delicious combination.

This 2021 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (86%) and Merlot (14%). Each parcel was picked towards the end of March and fermented separately in a combination of open vats and concrete fermenters with daily pumpovers. 2021’s warm conditions gave fruit of deep power and concentration, something the Voyager team worked hard to balance with an astute tannin profile. After fermentation, the wine was pressed to French oak for 14 months’ maturation followed by a final three months resting in concrete before bottling.

Reviews

“First poured, a ghastly apparition appeared – as if this had been placed in a corset and cinched tight. In a vinous sense, that means decanting or letting this beauty breathe in the glass. It has all the varietal appeal of Margs: its shapely tannins, supple and ever-so-slightly grainy and its savouriness. Very little oak impact (15% new French barriques), other than offering a complementary light seasoning of cedary spices.”
95 points, Jane Faulkner, The Wine Companion
“Ripe blackberries, plum skins and chocolate with hints of cedar and ground spices. Medium- to full-bodied, juicy and fruit-forward, with spice and walnut-like undertones. From organically grown grapes. Sustainable. Drink now. Screw cap.”
