This pristine Adelaide Hills Chardonnay is drawn from vines with an average age of 20-plus years, rooted in high-elevation sites in Oakbank, Lobethal and Piccadilly Valley. 2021’s yields were low enough to contribute drive and an impressive core of fruit to the wine, but thankfully not small enough to severely impact volumes. The mild vintage allowed for early and elongated flavour development—harvested at a cool 12.5%, there was great retention of acidity. The fruit was hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed with wild barrel ferment and maturation in both puncheons and barriques for 10 months (approx. 15% new).

Murdoch Hill Chardonnay 2021

Reviews

“It’s flinty and fresh, minerally and waxy and chalky, bolstered on rails of lemon-limey acidity following the crunch of green apple and this underlying hazelnut nuttiness through the whole thing. It feels pretty darn serious, actually, and has drinkability writ large. Lovely stuff, toothsome and moreish. Kudos again, Murdoch Hillians.”

"A very impressive rendition of this cool-climate chardonnay that offers ripe-peach and lemon-curd aromas with flinty reduction and a lick of spicy oak that is well matched. The palate is seamless and succulently fleshy, with tangy white-peach and lemon flavors, bright acidity and impressive concentration. Really focused. Drink now. Screw cap."

“Pale lemon in the glass. Grapefruit pith and karkalla aromatics. Bright and fresh with medium bodied grapefruit and lime curd notes. There’s a seaside savoury tone that rolls along with the lemony acidity. Good length and crisp at the finish”
