As well as being fine vignerons, Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis sure have a way with words. Like their juicy, fragrant, vibrant Que Syrah Syrah, the Ooh La La Chardonnay is as evocatively flavoured as it is delightful to say out loud.
The fruit is sourced from two favoured sites in Mansfield, Upper Goulburn, and Moorabool Ridge in Geelong. Barrie Provan’s Barwite Vineyard was established in 1998, about 15 minutes from Mansfield in Victoria’s high country, on undulating slopes that face predominantly northeast. The Moorabool fruit comes from a friend’s vineyard just a stone’s throw away from the Lethbridge home block in Geelong. The fruit is pressed as bunches and ferments in new French oak, followed by maturation on lees in a combination of seasoned foudres (500 and 1300 litres). The wine went through full malolactic conversion. In typical Lethbridge fashion, this packs a punch–it’s full of citrus, apples and florals with lovely warm spice notes and fresh-cut pineapple acidity coursing through the generous weight. Ooh La La indeed.
