This year’s Orange is a blend of Pinot Gris (80%), Sauvignon Blanc (11%), Riesling (7%), Muscat (1%) and Gewürztraminer (1%) from three sustainably farmed vineyards in Waipara. The Porters vineyard provided the Pinot Gris, Muscat, Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, while the Fraher vineyard contributed some Sauvignon Blanc, and the Riesling was sourced from the Three Sisters vineyard (planted on gravel between 2001 and 2004). The parcels were whole-bunch fermented in 1000-litre open top fermenters for 10-21 days, then pressed off and aged in clay amphora and old barrels for eight months. They were bottled unfined and unfiltered.
