Gaillard’s Cornas is from a one-hectare plot of 70-year-old vines planted on the cool, east-facing granite slope of Cayret. The vines were previously farmed by Marcel Juge and lie below La Gaynale. Like all Gaillard’s reds, it is destemmed and the Cornas was raised in 50% new oak for 18 months and bottled unfiltered.
So expressive and very seductive for a Cornas, with a good eye on finesse. Lovely fresh fruit, ingrained spice and smoky minerality taper to a long, perfumed finish. A very smart Cornas that can be enjoyed young.
