Ben has produced a single barrel of Mazis since 2016. Getting your hands on the wine is almost impossible, and we received only four magnums this year! The wildest member of the Chambertin family, Ben has two tiny parcels in the Haut and Bas sections of the vineyard. Noted for its power, Leroux ferments this cuvée with 100% bunches.

“The Mazis was going to be picked on 13th September on a fruit day but was then brought forward to the Sunday (10th) on a root day, in light of advancing ripening. In the end it registers just 13.3% finished. A glowing ripe purple colour, giving way to a really exciting bouquet, fully ripe fruit with the energy of the whole bunches and a floral note which returns at the back. A wine in a different profile compared to the other Gevrey Grands crus chez Benjamin.”

“The nose is vividly open with licorice, black cherry cordial and a dash of cassis. The chunky mouthfeel is dense with fruit and succulent tannins. A subtle but strong thread of acidity sews this all together. This will be bottled exclusively in magnums, so it's likely best to wait at least ten years before opening one.”
