Leroux only makes a single 600-litre barrel from this small 1er Cru. It lies above Malconsorts, itself one of the most highly regarded 1er Cru climats in the Côte de Nuits. The terroir is rockier than the rest of the vineyard, resulting in great perfume and freshness and perhaps less overt fat. From tiny bunches and berries, this vintage fermented with 80% bunches and was racked early from a new barrel into a pair of two-year-old barriques. Always a brilliant, if rarely tasted, wine—this is a great example.
