This comes from a tiny 0.28-hectare parcel of 50+-year-old vines in the clos itself. The planting density of this parcel is now 20,000 vines per hectare. The vines are not trimmed but wrapped together (tressage), and they yield tiny berries with very little juice. Vinified with 60% whole bunches—bringing oodles of perfume, structure and tapering finish—this is another wonderful Santenay. How many red Burgundies of this standard are offered at this price these days?
