Although this is Place of Changing Winds' least expensive Pinot, it comes from vines that receive exactly same standard of work as the rest. More specifically, it comes from several parcels across the small vineyard with densities between 12,000 and 14,500 vines/ha. The plant material in 2019 included MV6, 777 and 667. Roughly 50% whole bunch was used in 2019. It underwent natural fermentation in tank before going to 500- and 600-litre Stockinger casks for malo and aging.

Place of Changing Winds Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir 2019

Reviews

“A very attractively fragrant and expressive pinot nose with strawberry, red cherry, blood orange, pomegranate and gently reductive and spicy, oak-derived notes that add complexity. The palate has an intense core of blueberries and dark cherries with smoothly delivered texture, via nicely interlaced, fine tannins and fresh acidity. Impressive. Drink or hold.”

“From parcels planted at 12,000 and 14,500 vines per ha, clones of MV6, 777 and 667, wild-fermented with 50% whole bunches. Cleverly constituted, with lifted, fresh purple fruits, immaculate balance and harmony, the finish long and persistent. Ready when you are… drink to 2029.”

“Blended from several vineyard parcels, the 2019 Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir includes Clones MV6, 667 and 777. Made using 50% whole clusters, it shows some herbal, tea-like notes on the nose alongside hints of rose petals, pomegranate and pie cherries. Medium-bodied and silky, it's concentrated yet focused on the palate, with excellent drive and length on the finish. Matured in 500- and 600-liter barrels from Austrian cooper Stockinger, the oak influence is minimal. There were 1,321 bottles produced.”
92 points, Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate
"This is bony and skeletal, a tongue tugging experience in a fine-grained sheath of tannin, barely there black berry fruit flavours, anise and fennel, malty notes, wet slate rockiness and burr of rough velvet in tannin and texture. Tightly wound, slender in its grumble across the palate, finishes with characteristic bright acidity, amaro-tinged as it feels comes from this site, and a sense of ‘lively minerality’ as I explained the finish to someone standing near me as I was tasting for this note. A reluctant pal, but I admired the tension and restraint. Wait."
