The Petit Maupertuis lieu-dit lies on the Flagey-Echézeaux side of Vougeot, just below Grands Echézeaux. Domaine François Lamarche and members of the Gros family also farm vines in this terrific terroir. It consistently produces a Clos de Vougeot with far greater finesse than is normally associated with this historic site. This wine comes from a 0.15-hectre parcel of old vines (60 years), situated right beside the wall of the clos. It produced very little wine in 2021 and we have only received a single box. The wine was vinified with 80% whole bunches this year and raised in a single, new 456-litre barrel previously used to ferment the whites.

Reviews

“Made from upslope vines, this is a refined Clos de Vougeot. Mulberries and dried bouquet fill the nose then move into the lightly plush palate. The tannins are lightly sticky, seemingly gripping the flavors and pulling them into the solid, insistent finish.”
95 points, Christy Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin Burgundy Report 2021
“There is a lovely sweetness to the cherry and plum fruit here, with cedar, earth, and clove accents. The texture is tannic and structured, but there is enough substance to ensure a slightly fleshy, approachable suppleness on the palate. Good length. This wine is produced from a 0.15-hectare plot at the southern extremity of the Clos; Leroux produced two barrels in ’21. This Clos de Vougeot should age well indeed.”
