Natural cork Leroux started with Aux Boudots in 2015. His 0.3-hectare parcel lies on the upper slope, on rocky soil, where the vines squeeze out particularly small bunches of Pinot Fin. As a result, this parcel can handle a large percentage of whole bunches. Boudots is often referred to as the most Vosne-like of Nuits-St-Georges wines, though Leroux begs to differ. Even though his parcel in Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts is only a stone’s throw away, Leroux says the wines behave completely differently in the cellar. This sentiment is echoed by Bize Leroy (who farms over one hectare in Boudots) in Jasper Morris’ Inside Burgundy. Indeed, Leroux regards Boudots as home to “the true character of Nuit-St-Georges”. So there! Plenty of whole bunches this year, and the wine was raised in a single 320-litre cigar-shaped barrel (à la Dagueneau!).

Reviews

“Glowing ruby purple. A raft of flavour hits the nose, while the palate shows a firmer impact from the whole bunches alongside fruit which is predominantly red berries with some darker cherry notes as well. Good length, needs further elevage, but very promising.”
92-94 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“Underbrush and fresh earth pop out first on the nose before being joined by an array of summer pit fruits on the palate. The palate has crunch and sinew, and the finish has an Energizer-like quality.”
94 points, Christy Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin Burgundy Report 2021
