This is from the Pokolbin Estate Vineyard, planted on clay/loam soils back in 1969. Kiss is Thommo's best known individual vineyard Shiraz, the low-yielding vines producing fruit with exceptional depth and concentration. The fruit was hand-picked mid-February, cold soaked for 48 hours and then fermented on skins for nine days. The wine was matured for 16 months in premium French oak Hogsheads. This is a mature-aged release from the cellar, and has had an extra four years rest in bottle, an early section of the drinking window when the Kiss Shiraz usually opens for business.
A benchmark Hunter Shiraz from an outstanding vintage, displaying a delightfully deep and vibrant purple hue. Definitely in the fuller end of the medium-bodied spectrum, this is flush with concentrated dark blue fruits, savoury spice and a long, satiny tannin structure.
