Another one of the 1ers Crus closer to the village, Aux Beaux Bruns lies on the same latitude as Les Charmes and shares the site’s fleshy and textural personality but with a more open, earlier-drinking persona and an earthy/rocky complexity. The soils here have a lot of red clay and plenty of limestone pebbles, and it’s always the first of the Barthod sites to be harvested. Barthod has 0.73 hectares of 65-year-old vines that produce an aromatic and hedonistic Chambolle.

Reviews

“The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns opens in the glass with aromas of cherries, sweet berries, licorice and plums, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered palate that's unusually tightly wound for a young Beaux Bruns, exhibiting good tension and concluding with a mineral finish.”
93+ points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“Just 12.5% alcohol, as the decision was to pick early because this is a site which tends to make a richer style of wine. The 2020 Beaux Bruns still has its typical flamboyant style of bouquet after a fine mid purple colour. Everything is there, this has a superb balanced richness of dark cherry fruit but is light on its feet and very long indeed. An absolute joy and digeste at 12.5%.”
93-95 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
