This should not be confused with the Beaune Premier Cru of the same name. Meursault’s Clos des Mouches is a tiny monopole belonging to Henri Germain and devoted to Pinot Noir. It could be labelled as Volnay, as most reds from Meursault are, but Germain chooses to call a Meursault a Meursault. The half-hectare site lies near the Volnay border, due south of Les Santenots. The old Pinot Fin vines (planted in 1949) produce very low yields—under 25 hl/ha in a good year. It’s one of Meursault's few remaining walled vineyards, and the wine is always red-fruited, perfumed and pretty. The 2021 delivers that in spades.
