Francois Labet’s whole-bunch philosophy fits this juicy, old-vine cuvée like a glove. The fruit comes from three well-positioned lieux-dits across a total of 0.6 hectares: La Justice (northeast), Les Crais (southeast) and Jouise (southwest, just below Mazis-Chambertin). The ‘vieilles vignes’ here denotes a cadre of vines well over 60 years of age. The plots were co-vinified. Crafted with 45% whole bunches and matured in 25% new oak barrels, it’s classically structured and shows terrific vitality, with a palate tapering to a concentrated, dark cherry finish bound by fine, mineral-laced tannins.

Reviews

“Notes of sweet red berries, plums and spices preface the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine that's supple, seamless and saline. Its fragrant, melting style is typical of the vintage.”
88-90 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“Fine mid purple. Some elegance to the nose, alongside the very evident whole bunch aspect. Dainty little fruits but well held together. Dark red fruit, sweet raspberry veering to strawberry, the right tannins all in balance and enough acidity. Drink from 2025-2030.”
89-91 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“Extra breadth of aroma – a little more depth and terroir to this mineral base. Really wide and incisive – mineral too – tots of complexity here – strong from the stems – a bit of the austerity of the Bourgogne – wait 3 years – it will be a fine fresh and intense wine.”
