The MJW 2019 is 100% Chardonnay from Voyager's Block 5 (Gingin clone) and Block 6 (Clone 95) in the organically farmed Broadvale vineyard. These sites are laden with gravelly soils and have a high granite component over a stony, clay base.
The 2019 vintage was unusually cool and late, but the ripening was steady, and the cooler conditions provided the fruit with ample time for flavour development while still maintaining beautiful natural acidity. Both parcels were hand harvested and chilled overnight before being whole-bunch pressed and naturally fermented. The Block 6 portion went through full malo to increase structure and balance the natural acidities. Monthly bâtonnage took place over 11 months maturation in French oak (40% new).
