Jobard’s Charmes is a blend from both Les Charmes-Dessus and the lower Dessous sector, from holdings that total a minuscule 0.24 hectares. Two-thirds of Jobard’s vines are rooted in the higher Charmes-Dessus, which “brings a lot of minerality, a lot of freshness, because of all the limestone”, says Jobard. “We’re very much on rocks.” The fruit from Dessous brings the flesh and stuffing. Vine age varies; the key holding is a parcel situated directly below Les Perrières that was planted in 1963, although Jobard estimates the average age would work out at around 30 years. Just two barrels made this year. Without doubt one of the benchmarks of the area.

Reviews

"The 2021 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru has a strict, much more backward, reticent nose than the expressive Poruzot. The palate is more vocal with Clementine, stem ginger and light nectarine notes, gaining weight towards a slightly peach and still quite spicy finish. Give this time - patience required."
91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
“Two barrels from 6 ouvrées. Pale colour. A beautiful bouquet, on the fresher side. Good volume in the mouth, white fruit with lifted acidity, filling the second half of the palate even more. Not as massive as some recent years, but this is a high-class Meursault Charmes with a fresh finish. Drink from 2027-2033.”
92-94 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“Coming from both the upper and lower portions of Charmes, this is a "true" Charmes. Its fragrances and flavors of honey, Life Cereal, sliced apple and lemon drizzle simultaneously give this generosity and verve. The texture is sleek and glossy and lends to easy drinkability.”
94 points, Christine Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin Burgundy Report
